Hurricane Odile Update:
Friday 9/19/2014 8:30AM - Mexican military aircraft began transporting passengers from the region Tuesday. Alaska Airlines flew a number of their flights (at their expense) to Cabo over the last couple of days. The flights arrived loaded with supplies and left with tourists headed home. Hats off to Alaska Air for their generous helping hand. By Thursday, the country’s transportation ministry said 18,000 people had been flown out on more than 120 military and commercial flights. "The great majority of stranded tourists have been evacuated,” the ministry said, adding that efforts will continue until all the affected travelers are transported. Power to the region is expected to be restored soon as an army of 1,500 power company employees and convoy of 500 power company "bucket trucks" are arriving through the weekend. A barge with new power poles is at sea on it's way too. Stay tuned as paradise gets "turned back on"!
Thursday 9/18/2014 Noon - The official information as reported through our sources at the Villa Group Resorts is that the airport will start receiving inbound guests in Cabo on the 27th of this month. If you made your reservation through any other source other than through this site (Destination Vacations) please contact your booking agent for alternatives.
Thursday 9/18/2014 8:30AM -
Current guests at the resort are on their way to the airport in small groups on
shuttles to be air transported to various cities in Mexico and the US for
transfers home. The resort is expected to resume full operations when commercial
flights are resumed after the weekend...
Even Captain Tonys restaurant and bar on the Marina was open yesterday hosting
stranded guests while resuming repairs to their Palapa...
Wednesday 9/17/2014 4PM - Just made contact with some of our staff who actually had to go to San Jose to get cell service. Guests are departing and cleanup is in full swing. Some of the guests still there pitched in to help with the clean up! Here is a photo from the adjoining sister resort Villa Del Palmar...
Wednesday 9/17/2014 10AM - The Federal Government of Mexico has announced that there will be an air bridge to evacuate the upwards of 30,000 stranded tourists and residents from Los Cabos. The operation will use Armed Forces and commercial aircraft. These transfers will be to various locations throughout Mexico, departing from Los Cabos and La Paz airports and will be free of charge for the affected visitors. Alaska Airlines graciously sent additional aircraft to Mexico relocation cities late yesterday to ferry guests back to the US. If you have someone at the resort now please allow some time for them to be evacuated to a relocation city with electricity and communication services where they will surely contact you. Everyone is on their way home finally!
Here is a linked message from the U.S. State Department...
Tuesday 9/16/2014 Noon - Got this tweet from the resort last night. Flights into Cabo for supplies only to start in the next 24hrs and will return with outbound guests. Inbound guest flights may resume after the weekend. Stay tuned.
9/15/2014 3PM MT - Nature threw a hard punch! The good news is that employees and guests at the resort are safe according to direct reports from the resort. Damage from the most intense hurricane to directly strike the Baja Peninsula is severe with damage to buildings, roads washed out, lots of broken windows, etc. Cell service, internet service and electricity is intermittent in most of the city due to fallen power lines all across Cabo. I just spoke with the resort directly and they are currently on generator power for essential services while the broader power grid in Southern Baja is brought back online with continuous service. Getting around Cabo is tough due to all the flooding and debris but the people of Cabo have mobilized and will work tirelessly to help quickly restore the beauty, splendor and good times of the Cabo we all so appreciate. We look forward to providing additional information as it becomes available. Regards, Bob
